I spent $34.95 for a cool looking case to protect my phone from nicks and scratches. Seriously avoid this case if you care about preserving your phone in anyway. What did I get instead. I got a $34.95 case that left deep scratches into my 3 day old iphone 3G S. My 3 day old iphone is now as marked up as my previous iphone which is a year old. Avoid at all costs.
The case fits my 3G phone perfectly, and it's an elegant look. I've had my Elan case for about 9 mos now, and no sign of peeling leather. Maybe that issue was fixed. Doesn't stick in my pocket and collect lint like some others. Good protection for both phone and screen.
I rated it two because it didn't break and wasn't extremely different than advertised. It comes up over the edge of the screen, so dirt collects around the screen.
There are three things I mainly didn't like:1. The plastic itself is too thick, and isn't soft touch or rubberized2.
I had high hopes for this case. I didn't understand this ahead of time or like it.3.
I didn't like how the "easy dock" works. Easy dock means you have to take the bottom half of the case off to dock it.
I've been far happier with the slim polycarbonate cases that I've bought on amazon. There was just a lot to experience beyond the description.
I really liked the feel of the case. I took the case off the replace the protective screen and found the back of my iPhone completely scratched from small specks of dust and scratched from the case having been taken on and off of the phone. it is slim, which didn't add bulk to the phone. but that is all I like about the case. Unless you are going to keep the cover for ever, I would not recommend this to anyone. the purpose of a case is to protect, not accelerate damage.
Yep, turns out the proximity detector was sensing the surface overlay, which was preventing me from accessing any buttons after having held it to my ear. While not as well researched as most purchases, it was readily available at the time, and fulfilled my requirements - hard shell, dockable, and integrated screen protector. Since the iPhone screen is typically pretty durable by itself (anything forceful enough to shatter it isn't going to be deterred by a thin plastic sheet). I thought the price, while higher than I might have wanted, wasn't too bad for something that filled all these roles.First few months - The case is nice and sturdy. It withstood months and months of heavy use, being carried in pockets, etc.Unfortunately, the iPhone had always seemed to have trouble detecting when I was holding it to my face (during a phone call) and when I wasn't (trying to hang up on said phone call). No bubbles, like with troublesome adhesive protectors, and the stiffness of the hard plastic overlay seemed like it would be even more protective. The bevel around the screen takes away from the "flat" look of the iPhone, but it also means you can lay it face down without any worry of scratching the surface. What impressed me though.
It's just enough of a lip to keep things nice and safe. The screen protector is especially sensitive to any oils on the screen; it took careful cleaning with computer screen cleaning fluid and a microfiber cloth, but once it was clean, it was perfect. It also means that, with normal use, smudges collect along the edges, with no easy way of cleaning them off (brushing the screen against a pant leg won't work). The leather surface is comfortable to hold, without feeling clammy or slippery after extended use. Unless I decide I like squishy leather and patches of bare adhesive, this case will need to be replaced soon.
I purchased this case the same day I got my iPhone in 2008. The plastic overlay, while a little cloudy around the home button, was still scratch free. I couldn't believe it, really impressed with the durability. I thought it was a problem with the phone, but decided to try it without the screen protector just to be sure. It took taking it apart and recleaning to fix. Not enough that it's flapping in the breeze, but enough that grasping the sides can start to slide things around. I might not have picked out something with a leather covering, but it feels thick enough to actually protect against some falls. I decided to forego the screen protector and use the case alone.
Just slick enough I can slide the phone on a carpet over to a friend, grippy enough it's not a liability when carrying around casually.Few months after that - A small amount of moisture gathered under the screen protector, making all sorts of shapes between the glass and the overlay. Not a big deal. It doesn't fit as well this way (ever so slightly loose, where it used to be very secure), but it's still quite passable. After 6 months - The leather covering has started to come loose. Unfortunate, because it's been a good case, but I'm ready to move on to something that fits better without a required screen protector, and a little more subtle than a leather case. Conclusion - A good case marred by imperfect screen protector (interferes with proximity sensor) and less-than-durable leather adhesive (6 months of use have completely softened it).
